3 Effective Ways to Keep your Condo Cool this Summer
Summer is just around the corner, which means that your home will be heating up, and you’ll be turning to your trusty air conditioner to cool it down. The thought of having to open a hefty energy bill is enough to make you break into a sweat, even with your conditioner cranked! Not to worry: we’re breaking down the best ways to cool your space this coming summer.
Easy on Appliances
While windows are one of the primary sources of unwanted heat in your apartment, appliances are another major culprit. While the most obvious device in the home that gives off the most warmth is the oven, but all appliances throw off quite a bit of heat when they’re running. If you have a washer and dryer within your condo, consider doing your laundry at night or during cooler parts of the day. With a washer running hot water and a dryer spewing out heated air, there’s a lot of heat radiating out of these machines. Like your laundry machines, dishwashers should be run during the cooler hours as well. Plus, if your machine is quiet enough, you can run it while you sleep and wake up to clean dishes!
Suns Out (Hamburger) Buns Out!
While we’re on the topic of appliances, why not skip the stove and the oven and head outside and grill your dinner! Not to say that you should be holding a BBQ feast every day of the summer, but cooking your protein and veggies instead of turning on the stove will make a world of difference in the temperature of your condo. Many of the DevMcGill builds have communal BBQs for dwellers to enjoy. Over at NOCA condos, owners can barbecue in the rooftop pool area while enjoying the panoramic view of the Lachine Canal, Old Montreal, and the downtown core!
Draw Your Blinds During The Day
Try to keep blinds and curtains drawn during the day, especially during those times when the sun is at its peak. It’s said that up to 30% of unwanted heat can enter your home through your windows, and cannot escape. If you work from home or are one of the lucky few with jobs that break for the summer months, try to focus on keeping your west- and south-facing shutters drawn. This can lower the mid-day temperature of your home by 20 degrees!
Luckily for you, all of DevMcGill’s condos are equipped with A/C! All of our builds are located in throughout the city and offer a range of options based on your lifestyle. For more information, visit our website or call 514-288-4737.
