It’s finally happening. After a long, cold winter, the temperature is rising, the clouds are parting, and the sun is coming out to make your weekends better than ever. One of the perks of living in a cozy neighbourhood like Notre-Dame-de-Grâce is the abundance of open-air terraces. Many of the borough’s top spots have them – here’s a handy guide to some of the best.
St. Viateur Bagel
Considered by many to have the best bagels in the city, St. Viateur Bagel is a regular spot for residents to grab a hearty breakfast or lunch. They have a huge terrace which usually fills up Saturday and Sunday mornings, and all it takes is one brunch there to see why. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the view of Monkland Avenue is perfect.

Lucille’s Oyster Dive
A Monkland Avenue staple (which recently moved to the other side of the avenue) named after B.B King’s lucky guitar; Lucille’s is famous for their Seafood Bloody Caesar, containing an oyster, shrimp, clam and a crab leg. It’s the perfect complement to a cool summer evening, with Lucille’s terrace a hip place to be all season long. It’s undoubtedly one of the neighbourhood’s hottest spots, and the market fresh seafood is to die for.
Typhoon
Monkland’s trendiest bar, Typhoon also houses a top-notch restaurant, perfect for small-scale tapas like Tartare and fried calamari, or heartier meals like fish tacos or their Portobello burger. When the weather’s nice, Typhoon opens up their cozy patio and sipping a late-night bourbon or sampling a nice wine while enjoying a summer breeze is an experience that can’t be beat.

Al Dente
One of the most popular bring-your-own-wine restaurants in NDG, the unassuming façade hides an impeccable Italian eatery, which is sweetened by their summer patio, making it an ideal date spot, or a nice, quiet place to have a delicious Italian meal Al fresco. Try their homemade pasta or risotto!
Next Door Pub & Grill
Located on Sherbrooke Street, this popular bar is just what the name suggests – a local pub that aspires to be your default neighbourhood spot for drinks. They’re famous for their bottomless Caesar brunches, and the small, but cozy terrace is perfect for a Sunday morning before heading into town (Vendome metro is only minutes away by foot).
